Welcome to The Edventures!
As you may have guessed, my name is Ed and welcome to my travel blog. Although this site is in its infant stages, it will soon be populated with many travel stories, adventures, tips, and hopefully inspiration.
I love travelling; I love experiencing new cultures, meeting new people and appreciating how large and diverse the world is. I travelled for 8 months in 2006/7 after University and it was always my intention to go and do it again. Now more than ever seems the perfect time. To date I have visited 38 different countries ranging from luxury 5* experiences to cheap and cheerful budget travel- I cannot wait to add many countries to this list over the next year and in the future.
I am about to set off on a one year trip around the world- the first part taking me from London overland to Brisbane in 4 months, in time for the first day of the Ashes (a big cricket match between England and Australia for those who have not heard of it!). The overland trip will take me through Europe, on the Trans-Siberian Railway into Eastern Asia, before heading down through South East Asia towards Australasia. Most of the journey is commercially possible, but the final leg will need some inventive travel to succeed. If you own a yacht and are planning on travelling from Indonesia to Australia mid November time then please do get in touch. I will be completing this trip in support of The Oddballs Foundation and you can read more about this here.
After that who knows? I have my eyes on South and North America, but we will see where my nomadic state takes me when the time comes.
Why am I giving up my career to travel?
I recently left my job as a Business Studies teacher in Dubai. I loved my job and I feel educating others is rewarding, but the daily demand on my time and work life balance became out weighed in the wrong direction (don’t worry this is not another teacher moan about their job article, you can find plenty of those elsewhere online). A year’s travel will give me the perfect opportunity to reevaluate what I want to do next in my life. This year I had been planning a one-year ‘travelmoon’ with my then my fiancé. Sadly, the engagement was broken off, but this did not affect my plans and passion to travel. Although it is daunting heading out on my own on this adventure, I feel it is the perfect way to turn the hardest moment I have ever had to deal with, into a positive and enriching experience.
So, please do sign up for updates. This is the perfect time to follow; from the very start of my journey. Please do support me and sign up for updates below as well as follow/like my social media pages.
I cannot wait to share my experiences with you.
